Manchester United are reportedly plotting a surprise January move for 28-year-old RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Timo Werner returned to the Bundesliga after an unsuccessful Premier League spell with Chelsea, and it will be interesting to see if he is ready to return. According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Manchester United have submitted an enquiry for the 28-year-old former UEFA Champions League winner, who has also been linked with Real Madrid.

The German international has been linked with Real Madrid as well. But the Spanish giants are unlikely to make a move for him. The Merengues need attacking reinforcements, but they are not desperate for Werner.

The 28-year-old has done quite well for RB Leipzig since returning to Germany last year, and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can convince him to return to the Premier League once again.

Timo Werner struggled during his time at Chelsea, and a return to his comfort zone has worked wonders for him. It seems highly unlikely that the player will decide to return to the Premier League once again, especially when he struggled to adapt to the intensity and physicality of the league during his time at Chelsea.

It is no surprise that Manchester United are looking for a striker in January. Rasmus Hojlund needs more support in the final third. The Norwegian international is still quite young and is getting to grips with life in the Premier League. He needs a reliable partner who can share the goal-scoring burden with him.

Signing a striker should be a priority for Manchester United in January. The Red Devils have had a mediocre start to the season by their standards, and they will be hoping to get back into the Champions League positions. They will need to sign quality players in order for that to happen.

Someone like Timo Werner could be a useful acquisition for them if he manages to hit the ground running in the Premier League. He will add pace, flair and goals to the side. The German international is versatile enough to operate anywhere across the front three. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks, especially with Real Madrid likely bowing out of the race.
