Newcastle United will be ready to trigger the release clause worth €60 million to sign Sporting CP defender Goncalo Inacio, a target for Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Newcastle United and Real Madrid are interested in Goncalo Inacio. The Portuguese international has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract. But while the Magpies are ready to fork out the required sum, Los Blancos will not pay €60 million to sign the Sporting CP defender.

Who is Goncalo Inacio?

Goncalo Inacio is one of the best young defenders in the world. A graduate of the Sporting CP youth division, he has been with the club for over a decade. The 22-year-old made his first-team debut for the Lions a few years ago and has become a pivotal figure for his club in the last 12 months.

The youngster has also broken into the Portuguese national team and should be the long-term central defensive solution for them. Meanwhile, Inacio has turned out 139 times thus far for Sporting CP, chipping in with 11 goals and eight assists. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs.

A big move beckons?

Premier League bigwigs like Liverpool and Manchester United have shown interest in the young centre-back. Meanwhile, he is also a target for Real Madrid, who will look to sign him next year. But Inacio’s next destination might be Newcastle United, who will happily trigger his release clause, worth €60 million, in January.

In contrast, Real Madrid will not go into a bidding war and refuse to pay €60 million to secure Inacio’s services. The Merengues have lost Eder Militao to a long-term knee injury that will keep him on the sidelines until the end of the season. In addition, David Alaba, Antonio Rudiger, and Nacho are on the wrong side of 30. So, Inacio is a viable target for Real Madrid.

Meanwhile, recent reports have pointed to Newcastle United promising Inacio to launch the offensive to sign him in January. With Sven Botman being a long-term absentee and Fabian Schar into his thirties, the Magpies need a new centre-back. Inacio is thus an option worth considering.

With Newcastle United ready to fork out €60 million to land the 22-year-old, St. James’ Park should be his next destination unless Liverpool and Manchester United match the sum and leave it to the player’s preference for his next club.
