Chelsea are looking to bring in attacking reinforcements in January and have identified Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface as a potential target.

Victor Boniface has been in spectacular form for Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen, and a report from Calciomercato has claimed that Chelsea are hoping to secure his services in the January transfer window.

The Nigerian striker has 11 goals and six assists to his name across all competitions, and he could prove to be a superb long-term investment for Chelsea. The Blues have scored just 22 goals in 13 league matches, and they need to add more goalscoring options.

They signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal at the start of the season. But the 22-year-old has not been able to live up to the expectations, struggling to make his mark apart from the outing against Tottenham Hotspur. They have been linked with a move for Victor Osimhen as well.

Boniface could share the goalscoring burden alongside Jackson, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can come to an agreement. The 22-year-old has a contract with Bayer Leverkusen until the summer of 2028, and the Bundesliga outfit are under no pressure to sell him just yet. They could demand a premium for him, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

A move to the Premier League would be an exciting step up in the player’s career, and Chelsea one of the biggest clubs in the world. The Blues have spent substantial amounts of money on new signings since their takeover, and they have the means to get a deal done for the Bundesliga forward as well.

It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few weeks. Chelsea are yet to follow up on their interest with the concrete proposal to sign the Nigerian international. So, time will tell whether Bayer Leverkusen are prepared to sanction his departure.

Keeping the Nigerian international at the club could be key to their title hopes this season.
