The representative of Mauro Icardi recently met Real Madrid officials, but the Merengues have rejected the opportunity to sign the Argentine striker.

According to Guillermo Rai of The Athletic, Mauro Icardi will not join Real Madrid in the January transfer window. The entourage of the Argentine striker recently met the officials at the Spanish club. But the Merengues have snubbed the opportunity to land the in-form Galatasaray attacker.

Mauro Icardi: A player reborn

Mauro Icardi has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Galatasaray. The 30-year-old, once one of the best strikers in the world during his stint with Inter Milan, had seen his career and life spiral out of control during his ill-fated spell with Paris Saint-Germain. But moving to Turkey has been ideal for him.

Galatasaray initially signed Icardi on loan for the 2022/23 season before completing a permanent transfer this past summer. The Argentina striker has been exceptional thus far this season, amassing 16 goals and five assists in 21 appearances thus far. That included excellent performances to help Galatasaray qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

The former Inter Milan captain has also scored a famous goal at Old Trafford to condemn Manchester United to a frustrating Champions League defeat. Meanwhile, Icardi’s exploits have created widespread speculation surrounding him, with recent reports linking him with Real Madrid.

Reports this week have claimed that the Merengues are keen on signing the Argentine striker after his superb start to the season. Real Madrid recently lost Vinicius Junior to a long-term hamstring injury, reducing the offensive unit down to the bare bones. With Rodrygo Goes and Joselu being the only available options for Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid should invest in an attacker.

A short-term loan might be the best solution for Real Madrid heading into the January transfer window. But the report by Guillermo Rai has claimed that the Spanish giants are not interested in Icardi. The Argentine striker’s agent recently met Real Madrid officials, who made it clear that they would not sign him this winter.
