Manchester City are all set to overtake Real Madrid in the pursuit of the services of 17-year-old Argentine sensation Claudio Echeverri.

According to a report by Defensa Central, Manchester City and Real Madrid are both keen on having Claudio Echeverri in their ranks. The 17-year-old sensation has made quite a name for himself of late, and both European giants are ready to go the distance to acquire his services.

Echeverri has come up the ranks at River Plate. He was promoted to their first team a few months back and has already made four appearances for their senior side. He is a regular for the Argentine Under-17 team and has done wonders for them in the recent past.

Echeverri’s impressive rise has attracted attention. The 17-year-old has been on the radar of Real Madrid for a while now. Los Blancos have expanded their scouting network in South America of late and their chief scout Juni Calafat has already helped Madrid sign some exceptional payers.

Calafat has played a big role in the signing of Vinícius Junior, Rodrygo Goes and Federico Valverde amongst others. His team have been keeping a close eye on young prospects, and they have been monitoring the 17-year-old for a while now.

The Real Madrid chief scout has led the efforts to enter into negotiations with the River Plate for the signatures of the Argentine youth international. The process might have slowed down of late, but they are very much in the race for his services.

Real Madrid believed they had an advantage in the race for the services of the attacking midfielder because of the groundwork Calafat had already done. But Manchester City entering the race has levelled the playing area.

Manchester City have been trying to copy Madrid’s transfer strategy of signing young prospects, and they have their eyes on Echeverri. According to the report, the Premier League champions are all set to overtake Los Blancos in the race for his services.

They have started working towards his signing and with Kevin De Bruyne in the twilight of his career, Echeverri could be a great acquisition for Pep Guardiola’s team in the long run. The 17-year-old could eventually replace the Belgian international in the Spanish manager’s setup.
