Ian Maatsen open to joining Manchester City

Ian Maatsen has been linked with the move away from Chelsea in recent months, with Manchester City interested in him.

Ian Maatsen has a contract with Chelsea until the summer of 2025, and he could move on soon. A report from Football Insider has claimed that the versatile 21-year-old defender is open to joining Manchester City.

The Premier League champions have been linked with a move for the Dutch full-back, and it remains to be seen whether they decide to make a move for him in January. The 21-year-old is highly rated around European football, and he has a big future ahead of him. He could develop into a key player for Manchester City in the coming seasons.

He has struggled for regular game time at Chelsea, and a move away from the club would allow him to play more often. If Manchester City are prepared to offer him regular game time, it would be the ideal move for him.  He would get to play for a club capable of challenging major trophies every season and work under one of the best managers of all time.

Pep Guardiola could play a key role in his development and help him fulfil his potential. The 21-year-old will also allow Josko Gvardiol to operate in his natural role as a centre-back. The Croatian defender has had to operate as the makeshift full-back this season. Manchester City do not have any specialist left-back at their disposal, and signing Maatsen should be a top priority for them.

The 21-year-old is certainly a prodigious talent, and he has the ability to succeed at a top club. A move to Manchester City would be a step up for him at this stage of his career.

Chelsea are going through a difficult time, and they failed to secure Champions League qualification last season. They have made a mediocre start to the current campaign as well, and it remains to be seen whether they can finish the season strongly.

Meanwhile, Manchester City are one of the biggest clubs in the world, and they won the treble last season. The opportunity to join them can be hard to turn down for any player. So Maatsen’s stance is not surprising.
