Ajax are considering entering the race to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is certain to leave Tottenham in January.

According to Bas van den Hoven and Matthijs Vegter on VI, Ajax are considering an approach for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in January. The Eredivisie giants think of the Danish star as a big target but must fend off competition from some top continental clubs, with the midfielder certain to leave Tottenham.

Tottenham are yet to decide on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future as an exit in the January window looms large. The Danish midfielder has yet to feature prominently under Ange Postecoglou, leading to speculation that he could consider leaving the club.

Postecoglou clearly stated his midfield choices before the season and has stuck with them. Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr are now the top choices for Spurs’ midfield, while the 28-year-old Tottenham star sits on the bench for most of the time.

The Dane has acted as a deputy in challenging situations and when the first-choice midfielders are away. With James Maddison set to miss out until after the new year, the 28-year-old Tottenham star could get an extended run in Postecoglou’s lineups.

Yet, there are suggestions the midfielder might seek an exit as he does have plenty of interest in him. He has reportedly agreed to terms with Juventus and Atletico Madrid, with the latter actively seeking his signature during the summer window.

Neither side have the finances to meet Tottenham’s asking price, which could either see him remain at the club or join one of those on loan. Beyond the duo, other sides are keen, with Fulham one of the clubs interested.

Ajax joins them and strongly considers entering the race for the 28-year-old Tottenham star. In comparison, the Dutch giants may not have a chance in front of Juventus or Atletico Madrid, but they might try out.

As per Bas van den Hoven and Matthijs Vegter, Ajax considers Hojbjerg a vital target, placing him higher on their list, comprising Donny van de Beek. Ajax might find it easy with the latter, considering Manchester United are willing to sell him.

Yet, if there is the chance to sign someone like Hojbjerg, Ajax will pay full attention to the prospect. The question is whether they can afford to meet Tottenham’s demands. They have a good relationship with Spurs and just signed Steven Bergwijn.
