Arsenal and Chelsea reportedly have a stronger interest in 18-year-old Corinthians midfielder Gabriel Moscardo than Liverpool.
Neil Jones has told Caught Offside that Arsenal and Chelsea have “far more interest” in Gabriel Moscardo than Liverpool. The transfer expert has revealed that the Reds do not usually sign first-team players directly from South America and will wait and see how the 18-year-old Corinthians midfielder develops before making a move for him.
Jones said, “Another young Brazilian linked with a move to Merseyside is Gabriel Moscardo of Corinthians, although my information is that both Chelsea and Arsenal have shown far more interest in the 18-year-old than Liverpool have.”
“Liverpool, generally, do not sign first-team players directly from South America. Their tendency in the past has been to wait and see how a talent develops once it has moved to Europe – think of Diaz, Firmino, Fabinho, Nunez, Mac Allister and Alisson as six great examples – before making their move when the player reaches their early-mid 20s.”
Gabriel Moscardo has become one of the most highly-coveted young midfielders in the world this year. The 18-year-old wonderkid only became a first-team regular for Corinthians this season. But the youngster’s exploits have been enough to capture the attention of high-profile clubs in Europe, including Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool.
How does Gabriel Moscardo fit Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool?
Liverpool signed four midfielders in the summer transfer window after parting ways with several. But Wataru Endo has not been the first-choice holding midfielder for the Reds. So, with Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai not being defensive midfielders, they need a new signing to bolster the position. Gabriel Moscardo has thus emerged as a viable target.
As for Chelsea, the Blues have been hoarding talented young prospects since Todd Boehly and his consortium took over the club. But after signing Moises Caicedo, Lesley Ugochukwu, Romeo Lavia, and Enzo Fernandez this year, they do not need another midfielder. But that is not the case for Arsenal, who can sign Gabriel Moscardo as a long-term replacement for Thomas Partey.
The 18-year-old midfielder should benefit most by joining Arsenal instead of Chelsea and Liverpool. But with Neil Jones suggesting the Reds will unlikely launch the offensive to sign the youngster, the two London clubs will have the upper hand in the race to sign him. But recent reports have claimed he might not leave Corinthians until next summer.
