Barcelona will reportedly have more time to mount the offensive to sign 18-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation Gabriel Moscardo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona will have more time to plan for raising the finances to sign Gabriel Moscardo in 2024. The reigning La Liga champions do not want to enter a bidding war for the 18-year-old. Meanwhile, Corinthians will not sell the teenage midfield sensation before the summer transfer window.

Gabriel Moscardo has established himself as one of the best young prospects in his homeland. Brazil is never short of highly-rated prodigies. So, it is a testament to the teenager’s exploits that he has risen in stature so considerably during his teens. Meanwhile, he is already an international for Brazil’s Under-23 side.

The 18-year-old made his senior club-level debut earlier this year, coming on as a substitute in a Copa Libertadores fixture in June. Gabriel has already turned out 21 times for the Corinthians first team, gradually rising in stature at Neo Química Arena. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs.

Reports in the summer transfer window linked the teenage midfield sensation with Chelsea. But a deal did not see the light of day, with the West London club failing to secure his services. The interest in the player has soared in the last few weeks, with many other Premier League bigwigs keen. But the links with Barcelona have gained the most traction.

Barcelona joined the race to secure Gabriel Moscardo’s services in September. And they have taken no time to become the front-runners to land the 18-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation. Barcelona’s interest in the youngster is understandable, considering summer signing Oriol Romeu is on the wrong side of 30.

In addition, Romeu has not produced many convincing performances, meaning he is only a short-term solution. Gabriel Moscardo is thus a viable target for Barcelona. But the reigning La Liga champions do not want to enter a bidding war for his signature. However, they will have more time to figure out their strategy, with Corinthians not ready to sell the player until next summer.

The update should come as a boost for Barcelona, who can take time to hash out the plan to beat the competition to Gabriel’s signature. So, it will be interesting to see how the story progresses, with the 18-year-old Brazilian midfield sensation not going anywhere in the next eight months.
