Florentino Perez has vetoed Real Madrid’s move for 21-year-old Spaniard Athletic Club, with Takefusa Kubo being his preferred target.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Florentino Perez has had his say on the transfer matters at Real Madrid. Nico Williams, whose release clause is worth €50 million, recently emerged as a target for Los Blancos. But the Real Madrid president prefers a move for Takefusa Kubo instead of the 21-year-old Spaniard, Nico Williams.
Nico Williams is one of the best young wingers in La Liga since breaking into the first-team squad at Athletic Club. The Spanish international has also become a regular for La Roja while starting the season with a tally of one goal and five assists in ten appearances across all competitions thus far this term.
On the other hand, Takefusa Kubo has come leaps and bounds since joining Real Sociedad from Real Madrid last year. The Japanese international could not establish a foothold at Real Madrid after joining them from Los Blancos in July 2019. He embarked on multiple loan spells before leaving them on a permanent transfer.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a solid debut season with Real Sociedad but has stepped up considerably this term. Kubo has five goals and three assists in 16 appearances thus far in the ongoing campaign. And the young winger’s exploits have brought him back to Real Madrid’s radar. But apart from Kubo, Nico Williams has also been a target for Real Madrid.
Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will have no qualms about triggering his release clause worth €50 million, although Manchester City might be in the pole position. Nonetheless, with Rodrygo Goes blowing hot and cold, the €50 million-rated Spaniard is a viable target.
But Kubo, not Nico Williams, is the top target for Florentino Perez, who has vetoed the move for the Spanish international. The Merengues have reportedly been conjuring up ways to hash out a deal for the 22-year-old winger. And Kubo’s excellent form for Real Sociedad makes him an option worth considering.

With the Japanese international having Florentino Perez’s blessing for a summer move, a deal in the 2024 summer transfer window is on the cards. As for Nico Williams, the 50 million-rated Spaniard will not have a shortage of suitors pursuing his signature.
