Manchester United keen on Evan Ferguson

Manchester United are reportedly keen to sign Evan Ferguson, who will probably cost another British record transfer fee.

According to Football Insider, Manchester United are exploring the idea of signing Evan Ferguson next summer. The 19-year-old Premier League sensation reportedly signed a new contract with Brighton recently, which could see suitors paying another British record to sign the Irish striker.

If anyone had doubts over Evan Ferguson’s talents, his hat trick earlier in the season against Newcastle United showed what he’s capable of. The Irish striker has been sensational since breaking into this Brighton side under Roberto De Zerbi.

Having scored his first league goal against Arsenal last December, the 19-year-old Premier League sensation has gone on to net eleven more times. Given his tender age, it’s quite a feat, but some of the top clubs are already sniffing around.

Ferguson signed a contract extension in March, but Brighton have now rewarded him appropriately for his rise in stature. Now, Ferguson remains tied until 2029, putting the ball in Brighton’s court when making transfer decisions.

Chelsea are keen to sign him, but are also considering other striker options, including Victor Osimhen. Manchester United were keen during the summer, as Brighton may have already quoted them a considerable asking price. It took the Red Devils towards bringing Rasmus Hojlund, spending £72 million on the former Atalanta striker.

Manchester United reportedly retains an interest in Ferguson, but there are fresh stumbling blocks to ponder. His new contract could see the Seagulls keep hold of the striker for at least another season.

Secondly, if Brighton were to sell, they might demand more than £100 million, which would probably break the British transfer record. Chelsea recently broke that feat with the purchase of Moises Caicedo for £115 million, as many reckon it would take more than that to clinch Ferguson.

The 19-year-old Premier League sensation does have more suitors coming his way with each passing week, but for his development, he might see the wisdom in remaining at Brighton. As for Manchester United, they already have a young striker in the same mould in Hojlund and may not realistically chase another player with a similar profile.
