Chelsea, Liverpool pessimistic about landing Alphonso Davies

Peru vs Canada: Preview and Prediction as both sides aim to qualify for the knockout rounds of Copa America 2024.

Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City are reportedly sceptical about winning the race to sign Alphonso Davies, a target for Real Madrid.

According to a report by 90min, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City are losing hope about signing Alphonso Davies. The 23-year-old is also a target for La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid. And the Premier League bigwigs believe the Bayern Munich full-back wants to join Los Blancos next year.

Alphonso Davies has become one of the best full-backs in the Bundesliga since joining Bayern Munich from Vancouver Whitecaps in January 2019. That is a wonderful achievement, considering the Canadian international was a promising young winger when he arrived in Germany.

The 23-year-old has been a rampaging full-back for Bayern Munich while winning every trophy at the club level in Europe. Davies has turned out 171 times thus far while chipping in with eight goals and 28 assists. But the player’s contract situation has left the Bundesliga champions in a spot of bother. In addition, the situation has alerted Real Madrid, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

The Merengues hold a long-standing interest in the Bayern Munich full-back. Real Madrid will likely part ways with Ferland Mendy in the 2024 summer transfer window. In addition, Fran Garcia has not shown the quality to be the undisputed first-choice left-back for Real Madrid. Davies has thus emerged as a viable target for Los Blancos.

As for Chelsea, Marc Cucurella and Ian Maatsen face an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. In addition, Ben Chilwell has dealt with persistent fitness issues throughout his stint with Chelsea. So, it behoves the West London club to invest in a left-back, with Davies emerging as a viable target.

Meanwhile, Liverpool might not desperately need a left-back. But Andrew Robertson will be 30 years old next year, while Kostas Tsimikas does not have the quality to be the first-choice left-back for Liverpool. So, the Merseyside club can do with a left-back signing. Davies is thus an option worth considering.

But Chelsea and Liverpool are sceptical about winning the race to secure Davies’s signature next year. The Premier League bigwigs believe the 23-year-old wants to join Real Madrid. So, with Los Blancos optimistic about landing the Bayern Munich full-back, a summer move is likely unless the Bundesliga champions can turn his head.
