Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly leading the chase for Juventus and England Under-21 star Samuel Iling-Junior ahead of the January transfer window.

According to Ilbianconero, Tottenham Hotspur are the main contenders to sign Juventus starlet Samuel Iling-Junior, who is valued at €15 million.

Ange Postecoglou enjoyed a high-flying start to life at Tottenham, but their recent results have seen a shift in fortunes after suffering consecutive defeats to Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the last week.

Injuries and suspensions to key players such as Micky Van De Ven and James Madison, Christian Romero, and Destiny Udogie have exposed their lack of quality depth and forced Postecoglou’s side to seek reinforcements in the transfer market.

As Spurs will specifically be looking at adding players in defence, one area that also needs reinforcement is attack. Tottenham have struck some excellent deals with Juventus in the last two years, bringing in Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski. They now hope to repeat the trick by signing England U-21 international Iling-Junior in January.

During his youth career, Iling-Junior spent nine years in Chelsea’s academy; he made the jump to Juventus in 2020, where the youngster has remained ever since, and has swiftly established himself as one of the fastest-rising young talents in the Serie A this season.

While he has generally been limited to four appearances from the bench this season, he still impressed in his cameos for the Old Lady. Last season, he made 12 appearances for Juve, scoring a single goal and registering a solitary assist.

He has also started to show his adaptability as a player; not only can he play as a winger, he is also comfortable in left midfield and in central midfield. Although he’s highly regarded at Juventus and has a contract until 2025, a move to England could now be on the cards for the 20-year-old forward, with Tottenham keen to offer him a return to England.

With decent height for a winger and solid pace, he certainly has the build for one of the world’s most physically demanding leagues, especially under Postecoglou’s relentless pressing system.

As a left-footed player, he has a lethal cross from the left side of the pitch, while his flair will add a different dimension to Spurs’ attack. And for the reported asking price, he would be a shrewd long-term investment for Postecoglou’s side.
