Chelsea have reportedly received encouragement about Victor Osimhen wanting a move to Stamford Bridge, but they must wait until the summer.

According to the Evening Standard, Chelsea are confident about Victor Osimhen wanting a move to Stamford Bridge. The Blues are looking for a striker, and if the 24-year-old becomes available, they might drop out of the chase for other targets but must wait until the summer for the Napoli superstar.

Napoli could gradually lose their chances of retaining Victor Osimhen and agreeing a new contract with their 31-goal star. Problems have snowballed between the club and player since the new season began, as their ambitions to retain the Serie A title are already in considerable doubt.

Napoli are struggling for relevance in the league and the Champions League, as they remain on the brink of failure after a glittering campaign last time out. So far, the Serie A side have sacked manager Rudi Garcia as supremo Aurelio De Laurentiis hopes Osimhen will reignite his love for the club under new boss Walter Mazzarri.

From the outside, it appears Napoli could gradually fail in their long-term objective of having Osimhem with them. However, De Laurentiis would not sell the forward in January at all costs because he remains a significant factor in how Napoli finishes their current season.

Another reason Osimhen eventually leaves the club without signing a new contract would have to be the massive interest from the Premier League. Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham have all seen links to the Nigerian, but the Blues are apparently confident of sealing a deal.

Chelsea believes they have received enough encouragement from the 24-year-old to feel he’s keen on joining them. Recent stories suggested Osimhen was eager to discuss a move to Chelsea, which could make the Blues top contenders for his signature.

Another report insisted Chelsea have cooled their interest in Ivan Toney, which may have happened after learning Osimhen’s preference. The Napoli star will have plenty of high-profile clubs chasing him when the January window opens, but one will feel it’s impossible to prise him away then.

Any move must wait until the summer, as Chelsea will probably lead the race for the 31-goal star then. De Laurentiis will certainly slap a massive price tag on his reigning star. Hence, if the Blues desperately need a striker in January, they must start making plans for another target, but there are chances they might wait on for the Nigerian until the end of the season.
