Bournemouth will demand around £25-30 million to part ways with Lloyd Kelly, a target for Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur, in January.

According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Lloyd Kelly. And the two Premier League clubs now know how much it will take to land him in the January transfer window. Bournemouth will demand £25-30 million to sell the 25-year-old, even though he will be a free agent next summer.

Lloyd Kelly has enjoyed a solid spell since joining Bournemouth from Bristol City in July 2019. A graduate of the Bristol City Academy, he was one of the best defenders in the Championship until the Cherries returned to the Premier League. Since then, the Englishman has been in and out of the starting lineup at the Vitality Stadium.

That has also been the case this term, as the 25-year-old has started eight of the 15 games played by Bournemouth thus far. In addition, the Cherries are in a spot of bother over Kelly’s long-term future, as he will become a free agent next summer. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs like Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur. Meanwhile, Bournemouth will demand £25-30 million to sell him.

Liverpool should start planning for life after Virgil van Dijk, with the Dutchman on the wrong side of 30. In addition, the Liverpool captain has lost a yard of pace after suffering two long-term injuries in the last few seasons. Meanwhile, Joel Matip is approaching the final phase of his career, while Joe Gomez is not reliable due to his fitness issues.

So, it behoves Liverpool to delve into the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window as they look to challenge on all fronts. Kelly has thus emerged as a viable target for the Merseyside club. But the Reds face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur in the race to sign the soon-to-be-free defender.

Tottenham wanted to secure Kelly’s services in the summer transfer window. But Bournemouth rejected a deadline-day bid, thus scuppering the North London club’s hopes. However, Tottenham’s interest in the Englishman has not faded, with the Premier League heavyweights ready to launch a January offer for him.

It will be interesting to see if they are ready to meet Bournemouth’s valuation to sign the soon-to-be-free target or if they look to negotiate a lower fee.
