Real Madrid will compete with Newcastle United in the race to sign 20-year-old Brazilian attacking sensation Marcos Leonardo.

According to a report by Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, Marcos Leonardo is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues have approached his entourage to gather information about him. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old Santos attacking sensation is also a target for Newcastle United.

Marcos Leonardo is one of the best young prospects in his homeland. The Brazilian striker spent most of his formative years with Santos before breaking into the first-team squad in July 2020. Since then, he has come leaps and bounds, becoming a pivotal figure for Peixe.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an excellent 2023 campaign with Santos, amassing 21 goals and four assists in 44 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Leonardo’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. Newcastle United and Real Madrid are among his prospective suitors.

Newcastle United recently joined the race to sign Leonardo, even opening talks over a possible deal. The Magpies’ interest in the youngster is understandable, considering Callum Wilson is on the wrong side of 30. While the English international has been excellent, his fitness record is dubious.

So, it behoves Newcastle United to invest in a young striker who can compete with Alexander Isak for many years. But the Magpies face stiff competition from Real Madrid in the race to sign the 20-year-old Brazilian attacking sensation. The report mentions that the Merengues have submitted an enquiry for the young striker.

Real Madrid sounded out Leonardo’s entourage to gather information about him. With recent reports claiming that Los Blancos will not sign Kylian Mbappe next year, they need an alternative. While Endrick will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu, he will be only 18 years old and will need competition for his spot. Leonardo is thus a viable target for Real Madrid.

Recent reports have claimed that Santos will likely listen to offers for the 20-year-old Brazilian attacking sensation. But it will be interesting to see if Real Madrid will ramp up the efforts to land him. For now, Newcastle United might be in the pole position to secure Leonardo’s services.
