Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea could prioritise the signing of 24-year-old Bayer Leverkusen centre-back Edmond Tapsoba next summer.

According to a report by CaughtOffside, Chelsea are looking to further bolster their squad next summer despite having spent millions over the past few windows. The Blues want to sign a new centre-back and have their eyes on Edmond Tapsoba.

The 24-year-old has made quite a name for himself of late and he is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe. Tapsoba came through the ranks at Vitória S.C. before making a move to Leverkusen in the winter of 2020. The 24-year-old has gone from strength to strength since joining the German club.

He has featured in over 150 matches for the club and has established himself as one of the mainstays of the team. In the ongoing season, he has featured in 15 matches and has found the back of the net twice.

Tapsoba has carried his incredible form into the new season and his impressive performances have attracted a lot of attention. Chelsea are one of the clubs keen on having the 24-year-old in their ranks.

The Blues might have spent millions on their team but there are still a few key areas that need reinforcement. And, their new manager Mauricio Pochettino feels they need to sign a new striker and defender ahead of next season.

They have their eyes on Napoli sensation Victor Osimhen to bolster their attack and in defence, the Blues feel Tapsoba is an ideal candidate. Trevoh Chalobah will soon part ways with the club as he has fallen down the pecking order under Pochettino.

There is interest in his services and if he leaves the club, the Blues will need a replacement. And, they think the Burkina Faso defender could be a great fit for their project. He is young and has the potential of becoming one of the best.

As a result, Chelsea are considering making the 24-year-old their priority transfer target for the summer of 2024. However, they still won’t find it easy to land him at the club because there is a lot of interest in him from across Europe.
