AC Milan will reportedly compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race to sign 17-year-old Serbian wonderkid Matija Popovic.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Matija Popovic is the subject of interest from AC Milan. Barcelona and Real Madrid are also interested in the 17-year-old wonderkid. And he could leave FK Partizan Belgrade as a free agent at the turn of the year, with his contract expiring next month.

Matija Popovic is one of the brightest young prospects in Europe. While he is a native of Altotting in Germany, the youngster has spent his formative years thus far in Serbia. Meanwhile, the player’s versatility is his greatest asset, as he can play as an attacking midfielder, a winger and a striker.

The 17-year-old has risen through the ranks at FK Partizan Belgrade and currently turns out for the club’s under-17 side. Meanwhile, Popovic’s record this term is exceptional, managing 21 goals and five assists in 25 appearances thus far. But the Serbian giants are in a spot of bother over the player’s long-term future.

Popovic has entered the final months of his contract, which expires on December 31 later this year. The youngster’s impending status as a free agent has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs. AC Milan, Barcelona, and Real Madrid are keen on signing him.

But Barcelona and Real Madrid face stiff competition from AC Milan in the race to sign him. The report has claimed that the Serie A giants are stepping up their efforts to sign him. They have also shown interest in many other teenage prospects in the last few months, including Valentin Barco.
