Real Betis will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Ukrainian international Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid as a successor to Andriy Lunin.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Andriy Lunin is the subject of interest from Real Betis. The Verdiblancos are in the market for a goalkeeper heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. They view the 24-year-old Real Madrid outcast as a potential long-term successor to Claudio Bravo.

Andriy Lunin has endured a frustrating spell at Real Madrid since arriving from Zorya Luhansk in July 2018. The Ukrainian international would have hoped to feature more regularly than he has done thus far. But Thibaut Courtois’s presence between the sticks has curtailed his game time in the last half a decade.

Instead, the 24-year-old embarked on three loan spells away from Real Madrid, although they did him no favours. Lunin’s prospects have hardly improved, even with Courtois being on the sidelines this season. With Real Madrid signing Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan for the 2023/24 season, the player has had to suffice with more time on the bench than on the pitch.

Lunin has turned out just twice thus far this season, keeping one clean sheet while conceding one goal. Meanwhile, the frustrated goalkeeper has entered the final year of his contract and will likely leave Real Madrid as a free agent next summer. Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid might offer him in a part-exchange deal to complete a permanent deal for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

But Real Madrid might have to part ways with the 24-year-old without recouping anything from his departure. Meanwhile, Lunin’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. One of his prospective suitors might be Real Betis.

The Verdiblancos are in the market for a goalkeeper amid Claudio Bravo’s advancing years. The veteran goalkeeper is 40 years old and approaching the end of his illustrious career. So, it is hardly surprising that Real Betis might look to sign the 24-year-old Real Madrid outcast and extend his stay in La Liga.

The Ukrainian international, despite his limited game time, is well-settled in La Liga. So, he should hit the ground running at the Benito Villamarin Stadium. They have also shown interest in other goalkeepers. But Lunin might be the best option to bolster the Real Betis goalkeeping unit.
