Real Madrid will reportedly make several checks on 23-year-old Chelsea defender Reece James in the 2023/24 season.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Reece James remains the subject of interest from Real Madrid. Los Blancos will run the rule over the 23-year-old Chelsea defender multiple times throughout this season. But the West London outfit will demand a premium to part ways with the club captain next year.
Reece James has established himself as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since becoming a regular for Chelsea. A graduate of the fabled Cobham Academy, the Englishman has bucked the trend of youth prospects perennially embarking on countless loan spells away from Chelsea.
The 23-year-old has seen his stock skyrocket since his breakthrough 2019/20 campaign. And he has succeeded Cesar Azpilicueta as the club captain following the Spaniard’s departure from Stamford Bridge this past summer. But James has struggled with fitness issues in the last two years, with the same being the case this term.
The English international has managed only 166 minutes of game time thus far this season across four appearances. But James’s stock remains high, with several high-profile clubs keen on signing him. One of his prospective suitors next year will be Real Madrid.
The Merengues have closely monitored James’s progress for a long time. The Chelsea captain has featured on Real Madrid’s radar for many years, and they are ready to make a move. With Dani Carvajal on the wrong side of 30, it behoves Real Madrid to invest in a right-back who can share game time with the Spaniard.
Reece James has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. And considering his fitness issues, the Englishman can ease into the thick of the action while overcoming his problems. Meanwhile, the report claims that Real Madrid will make several checks on the 23-year-old this season. But Chelsea will demand a premium to part ways with him next year.
