Manchester United have reportedly seen their talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka over a new contract collapsing of late.

A report from Daily Mail has claimed that contract talks between Manchester United and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have now come to a standstill. So, a move away from Old Trafford might be on the cards for the full-back.

The 25-year-old defender recently returned to training following a hamstring injury, and it remains to be seen whether he can hold down a regular starting spot. Wan-Bissaka’s lack of ability to influence the game going forward has seen him drop down the pecking order at Old Trafford, and he will want to play regularly.

If Manchester United cannot provide him with those opportunities, he should look to move on for his own benefit. The defender has a contract with Manchester United until the summer of 2024, and the Red Devils have the option to trigger a one-year extension.

However, Manchester United have been looking to tie him down to a longer contract, even opening talks with his entourage. It will be interesting to see if the two parties can resolve the situation soon.

Wan-Bissaka was regarded as one of the finest young defenders in the Premier League when he joined Manchester United in a £50 million deal. But his career at Old Trafford has not gone according to plan.

While he remains an impressive defender, he needs to work on the offensive phase of his game as a full-back. The 25-year-old contributes very little going forward, and Diogo Dalot has been preferred ahead of him as a result of that.

The Portuguese international defender is much better going forward, and he will hope to establish himself as the undisputed starter at Manchester United ahead of the English defender in the coming months.

Wan-Bissaka is entering the peak years of his career, and he will need to play regularly. Sitting on the bench at Manchester United will not be an option for him, and it remains to be seen how the situation develops.

If the player refuses to sign a new contract with the club, Manchester United should look to part ways with him at the end of the season. The one-year extension clause will allow Manchester United to recoup a fair bit of money for the 25-year-old defender at the end of the season.
