Manchester United are reportedly looking to agree on a new deal with 25-year-old right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

A report from Football Insider has claimed that Manchester United are hoping to agree to a contract extension with Aaron Wan-Bissaka, with his current deal expiring at the end of this season. They have intensified talks with the player.

The Red Devils have the option to extend it for a further 12 months. But they are hoping to agree on a long-term contract with the player. The 25-year-old struggled for regular game time in recent seasons before Erik ten Hag arrived.

Even under the Dutchman, he barely featured in the first half of the 2022/23 season. But Wan-Bissaka turned it around after the break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, justifying the £50 million Manchester United paid to land him from Crystal Palace.

The Englishman joined Manchester United for a fee of around £50 million back in 2019, and he has not been able to hold down a regular starting spot. Diogo Dalot is currently the first-choice defender at the club, and it remains to be seen whether Wan-Bissaka demands game-time assurances before signing a new long-term deal.

It is not surprising that the Red Devils are hoping to tie him down to a new contract. They will not want to lose him as a free agent. It would not be surprising if Manchester United decided to sell him permanently at the end of the season for a substantial amount of money after agreeing on a new contract with him.

They will probably look to protect his value heading into the upcoming transport windows. Wan-Bissaka was highly rated in the Premier League before his move to Manchester United. However, he has been quite mediocre going forward, which has limited his game time at Manchester United.

While his defending remains impressive, he will have to improve the offensive side of his game in order to start regularly at a big club. The 25-year-old offers very little going forward, and Dalot has been preferred ahead of him at times because of that reason.

The defender could still be a very useful squad player for Manchester United. If used properly, he could help up the Manchester United backline against superior opposition and help out defensively. It remains to be seen how his future unfolds.
