Manchester United open contract talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka
According to Fabrizio Romano via Youtube, Premier League giants Manchester United have opened initial talks with Aaron Wan-Bissaka regarding a new deal.
The English full-back has enjoyed a resurgence under Erik ten Hag and worked his way back into first-XI contention. It is a remarkable turnaround for a player who once looked to be on his way out of Old Trafford.
Romano confirms as much and also revealed that the Red Devils had then-Celtic star Josip Juranovic to come in should Wan-Bissaka be moved on. However, it was not to be and the 25-year-old stayed put at Old Trafford.
Months on, it appears to have been the right decision given the full-back’s change in fortunes. It has left an excellent impression on the club they are now discussing fresh terms.

While a deal is not concluded yet, the fact that talks are already underway hints at both sides being in agreement to extend their relationship. Wan-Bissaka deserves credit for the development and his performances since January have spoken for themselves.
But then, it could also be a case of Manchester United protecting their player’s value. The Red Devils star’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, meaning he could leave for free. It would be a terrible return on a player the club splashed out £45m plus £5m in add-ons.
Securing his future at Old Trafford, at the very least, will give the club some leeway in negotiations and retain hope of securing a transfer fee should an exit appear imminent. The 25-year-old was on the bench during Manchester United’s humbling to Brighton & Hove Albion following an injury.
Hopefully, it will not be serious and he can come back raring to complete the redemption arc. For now, the player appears to be ticking all the right boxes in a season where Manchester United have seen more bad than good.
As far as a new contract is concerned, it remains to be seen if an agreement can be reached sooner rather than later.
