West Ham United have joined Aston Villa and Chelsea in the race to sign 26-year-old English striker Tammy Abraham from AS Roma.

A report from CalcioMercato.it has claimed that Aston Villa, Chelsea, and West Ham United are keen on signing 26-year-old English striker Tammy Abraham in the near future.

Tammy Abraham has been linked with a return to the Premier League for months, and it will be interesting to see if AS Roma are prepared to sanction his departure. The Giallorossi have Romelu Lukaku at their disposal, and Abraham is unlikely to be a regular starter for them.

So, an exit from the Italian club would be ideal for the English forward. Meanwhile, there have been rumours of a potential swap deal between AS Roma and Chelsea for their two strikers, Abraham and Lukaku.

Abraham needs regular football to continue his development. So, if the likes of West Ham United, Aston Villa and Chelsea can provide him with those opportunities, a return to England would be ideal for him.

The striker could be tempted to return to his boyhood club Chelsea, and he might feel that he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge. He did not get ample opportunities to showcase his qualities during his previous spell at Chelsea. But the Blues could certainly use someone like him right now.

Chelsea signed Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal to solve their goalscoring problems. But he has found the back of the net just three times across all competitions. On the other hand, Abraham has scored 36 goals for Roma in his last couple of seasons with them.

The 26-year-old has shown his quality in English football in the past as well. He could prove to be a quality acquisition for Chelsea if they can secure his signature. Meanwhile, West Ham will need to add more cutting edge in their attack, and Abraham could form a quality partnership with Mohammed Kudus.

As far as Aston Villa are concerned, they have a top-class striker in Ollie Watkins. But Unai Emery needs more options to work with the more they play on four fronts. Abraham could share the goalscoring burden with Watkins, and the arrival of the Roma striker would give Emery the opportunity to rotate his squad and rest key players like Watkins for the big games.

Each of Aston Villa, Chelsea, and West Ham United have the financial resources to tempt the striker into a transfer. It will be interesting to see if they can agree on a reasonable fee with Roma first.
