Real Madrid will have the chance to sign Kalvin Phillips next year, with intermediaries offering the Manchester City outcast to Los Blancos.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Kalvin Phillips might be on his way to Real Madrid. Intermediaries have offered the Manchester City outcast to Los Blancos. Meanwhile, the treble winners want to recoup €50 million by selling the struggling midfielder next year.

Kalvin Phillips has seen his career come to a grinding halt since joining Manchester City from Leeds United last year. The English international was one of the most highly-coveted midfielders in the market when he moved to the Etihad. But the transfer has not worked out as he has been a peripheral figure for Manchester City.

The 27-year-old barely featured as Manchester City won the treble last season. Pep Guardiola even went as far as calling him overweight following the break for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But things have gone from bad to worse this term, with Phillips managing only 168 minutes of game time in six appearances thus far.

Guardiola did not even trust him to start games when Rodri served his three-match suspension. So, Phillips must leave Manchester City in the January transfer widnow to resurrect his stuttering career. He does not have a shortage of suitors, with Liverpool recently showing interest in him. Real Madrid might now have the chance to land him in 2024.

The Merengues are not necessarily in the market for a midfielder. But they do not squander any opportunity if it arises, as evidenced by the acquisition of Arda Guler this past summer. So, if Carlo Ancelotti rates Phillips highly, a move to Real Madrid might be on the cards.

Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are on the wrong side of 30, and both players are likely playing their final season at Real Madrid. So, a well-rounded midfielder like Kalvin Phillips might fit their needs well. Meanwhile, Manchester City will demand around €50 million to part ways with him.

The treble winners are eager not to make any losses on their disastrous investment. But it is unclear if Real Madrid will be ready to pay €50 million for Phillips if they take up the offer to sign him. But recent reports have suggested a loan move is possible. So, it will be interesting to see if a deal sees the light of day.
