Newcastle United could push for the services of the 27-year-old Brentford midfielder Mathias Jensen in the winter transfer window.
According to a report by Fichajes, Newcastle United are looking to bring in a new midfielder during the winter transfer window, and they have their eyes set on Mathias Jensen. The Magpies have received a huge blow, with Sandro Tonali banned for 10 months, and they are looking at options to fill the void left by him.
Tonali was involved in illegal betting during his time at AC Milan. The 23-year-old has now been handed a 10-month-long ban because of breaching betting rules. And, he won’t be allowed to take part in any football action for the remainder of the season.
The Italian international will also miss Euro 2024 that will be held next year. He will return to the field in August 2024. Tonali was Newcastle’s marquee signing heading into the 2023/24 season. They had an exceptional season last time out as they managed to finish inside the top four and secure Champions League football.
In order to maintain the level and compete in both competitions, they spent big and acquired Tonali from AC Milan. While he had an exceptional start to life in England, his ban has resulted in a huge headache for Eddie Howe and his team.
Newcastle United have started looking for a potential replacement. While Tonali will be back next season, the Magpies want to fill the void in the short term to ensure they can once again finish in the top four and secure UEFA Champions League football for next season.
The English club have been on the lookout for options. And, Brentford’s Mathias Jensen is one of the names on the list. The 27-year-old has a similar playing style to Tonali and he has a lot of experience playing in the Premier League which will surely help the cause of the Magpies if they end up signing him.

His contract with the London club runs until the summer of 2026. But given the financial power of Newcastle United, they can surely prise him away from the club if they want to.
