Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are not interested in acquiring the services of 24-year-old Chelsea target Victor Osimhen.

According to Neil Jones via CaughtOffside, Liverpool will not push for the services of Victor Osimhen. The 24-year-old Napoli forward has been the talk of the town of late. And, he has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club but Jones feels Jurgen Klopp’s team have no plans of signing a new number nine.

Osimhen has gone from strength to strength since joining Napoli in the summer of 2020. He has made quite a name for himself with his impressive performances and at this point in time, he is amongst the best young forwards in world football.

The 24-year-old was on fire last season as he scored the most goals in Serie A and helped Napoli win the league title after three decades. His exceptional performances attracted a lot of attention during the summer but the Naples-based club managed to keep hold of him.

It has been a while since the transfer window ended but there is still a lot of interest in him. Liverpool were one of the clubs linked with the 24-year-old. With Mohamed Salah likely to leave the club in the near future, there was a lot of talk about Osimhen being the ideal replacement.

However, Neil Jones feels Liverpool will not sign any number nine in the summer. They are quite happy with Darwin Nunez and he will be the leader of their attack in the long run. They have quality forwards in Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo, all three of them can play anywhere in attack. As a result, they won’t go big for a new number nine in the summer.

Jones said: “Victor Osimhen has been linked with Liverpool in recent weeks, but I would be very sceptical about this deal. The Napoli striker is clearly a superb player, but reports that a deal has already been agreed with the Reds are wide of the mark, and I’d be surprised if he was to end up at Anfield as things stand,”

“Liverpool are not in the market for a No.9. They have Darwin Nunez, Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo to play that position at the moment, and all three of those players have the full faith of Jurgen Klopp. All are 26 or under, and seen as long-term players for the club.

“Nunez’s development, in particular, has been a big positive this season. The Uruguayan has worked hard on the training ground, and looks far more in tune with what is required from him, on and off the ball, if he is to play regularly for Liverpool. He took the No.9 shirt in the summer, and has now become the main striker for his country, and I expect him to go from strength to strength as this season goes on.

“He, for sure, is the future at Anfield, and I would not expect to see Liverpool spending big money on a centre-forward any time soon.”

With Liverpool not interested in the Napoli striker, Chelsea have received a major boost. The Blues have struggled in the final third of the pitch. Their young forwards haven’t been able to score enough goals. They have created chances but their form in the final third has been a major concern.

As a result, they are looking for marquee number nine and Osimhen has been on their radar of late. The Blues are willing to go big for his services and they will surely benefit if there is no bidding war in place for the 24-year-old.
