Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for the Uruguayan international defender Sebastian Caceres.

According to a report from Record, Club America are preparing for life without 24-year-old star defender Sebastian Caceres. That development will come as an encouragement for Tottenham Hotspur and other suitors.

Tottenham are looking to bring in a quality central defender, and the 24-year-old would be a superb acquisition for them in the long run. So, the North London club’s interest in him makes sense.

Caceres will add some much-needed quality and depth to the Tottenham backline. Tottenham need more options at their disposal if they want to compete for major trophies on a consistent basis.

The Club America defender will be attracted to the idea of playing in the Premier League, and the opportunity to join Tottenham will be hard to turn down. Tottenham did well to sign players like Micky van de Ven and Ashley Phillips during the summer transfer window. But they need to add more quality and depth at the back.

Caceres could be a key player for Tottenham in the coming seasons, and regular football in the Premier League could accelerate his development. The Uruguayan defender is still only 24, and he is likely to improve with coaching and guidance. Tottenham have started the season in fine form and they are currently on top of the league table.

They are still unbeaten in the Premier League and will be hoping to continue their impressive run of form and get back into the UEFA Champions League next season. Signing the right players in January could help them finish the season strongly.

The North London outfit certainly have the financial resources to get the deal done. So, it remains to be seen whether they try and submit a concrete proposal for the player during the January transfer window. Club America are unlikely to turn down a move if a lucrative proposal is presented in the coming months.
