Real Sociedad are angling a move for Donny van de Beek ahead of the January window, with Manchester United open to offers.
According to Fichajes, Real Sociedad are hopeful of signing Donny van de Beek ahead of the January window. The Spanish side are sensing an opportunity to strengthen their midfield with the 26-year-old Manchester United flop, who does not have a future at Old Trafford.
Donny van de Beek came into Manchester United with plenty of promise after some stellar seasons with Ajax. While he could not get his bearings right in the first season, there were quite a few eyebrows raised when the 26-year-old failed to sparkle under former manager Erik ten Hag.
In short, Van de Beek has yet to do anything to justify the £40 million Manchester United paid for him. He also joined Everton on a short-term loan in the hopes of reviving his game, but even that did not work. With some injury problems, not many clubs came around for him during the summer, although a few were sniffing around.
Real Sociedad were one of those, and as things stand, they maintain an interest in the 26-year-old Manchester United flop. With the January window approaching, the Spanish side are sensing an opportunity to strengthen their midfield with the Dutchman.
Ten Hag has used him for a total of two minutes of Premier League actions this season, with the door wide open for the midfielder to leave. Manchester United are keen on parting ways and would like to recoup a decent sum with his sale.
Real Sociedad may sense the cut-price nature of this move and could make an early approach. The Spanish side are playing Champions League football, and previous reports stated Van de Beek was open to joining them.
There are other clubs in the mix as well, with fellow La Liga side Villarreal also keen to sign him next year. Manchester United would not want a loan move for the midfielder, something that would suit a chunk of his suitors. Real Sociedad are seeing something everyone’s missing about the 26-year-old.
Inter Milan are also one of the interested parties, and a move to Italy would seem nice for the Dutchman. However, it may appear that Real Sociedad have done some groundwork for the 26-year-old, which may help swing the transfer their way.
With his contract expiring in 2025, Manchester United will hope they don’t have to take up the club’s option of extending his deal. Hence, a permanent move in January would suit all parties, although all eyes will be on what the Red Devils demand for their flopped star.
