Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Argentine winger Nicolas Gonzalez from Serie A club Fiorentina.

Nicolas Gonzalez has been in form for Fiorentina this season, scoring seven goals and picking up two assists in 11 appearances across all competitions. A report from Fichajes claims that Chelsea and Liverpool want to sign the player, who will cost them around €55-60 million.

Nicolas Gonzalez is entering the peak years of his career, and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for the Premier League clubs. Liverpool could certainly use more depth in the wide areas.

The Argentine is primarily a left-sided winger, but he is versatile enough to operate on the right as well. Liverpool are lacking a specialist winger apart from Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz. Adding another quality wide player to the side could complete the attacking unit for the foreseeable future, especially amid Saudi Pro League clubs’ interest in Salah.

The opportunity to join a club like Liverpool will be an attractive option for the South American attacker as well. It would be a major step up in his career, and he would get to test himself in the Premier League.

He will want to join a club capable of competing for major trophies, and Liverpool have certainly shown that they can fight for league titles and Champions League trophies on a consistent basis. On the other hand, Chelsea could use attacking reinforcements as well.

The Blues need to add more goals and creativity to the side. Players like Mykhailo Mudryk have not been able to live up to the expectations since joining the club, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea decide to invest in another quality winger.

Gonzalez certainly has the technical attributes to thrive in English football, and he could be a very useful option for Liverpool and Chelsea. Although the reported €55-60 million price seems quite steep, there is no doubt that the English clubs have the financial resources to get the deal done.

That said, they will probably hope to sign him for a more reasonable price. It will be interesting to see if they come forward with an offer to sign the Argentine winger from Fiorentina in the coming months.
