Sergino Dest might see his horrific Barcelona spell end in the 2024 summer transfer window once he returns from his loan stint with PSV Eindhoven.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Sergino Dest will not get the chance to resurrect his Barcelona career. The reigning La Liga champions want to cash in on him in the 2024 summer transfer window. The 22-year-old defender is currently on loan at PSV Eindhoven until the end of the 2023/24 season.

Sergino Dest is a native of Almere but spent most of his formative years in Amsterdam with Ajax. The USMNT international rose through the ranks at the famous Dutch club before making his first-team debut as an 18-year-old in July 2019. He then enjoyed a fantastic 2019/20 campaign before joining Barcelona in a deal worth €21 million in October 2020.

But while he enjoyed a decent debut season with Barcelona, his stock fell in the 2021/22 campaign. The Blaugrana loaned Dest out to AC Milan last year, hoping he would resurrect his stuttering career at San Siro. But game time came at a premium for the 22-year-old, who returned to Barcelona with his stature reducing further.

Barcelona, hence, found it difficult to look for suitors who would sign him permanently. Eventually, they had to change their stance over Dest’s sale, with PSV Eindhoven landing him on a season-long loan deal. The youngster has looked decent thus far in his eight outings but has not set the stage alight yet.

So, it is unclear if PSV Eindhoven will look to complete a permanent deal for the 22-year-old in the 2024 summer transfer window. Nonetheless, Barcelona will look to cash in on him once he returns from his loan spell with PSV. They want to cut their losses on him after two sub-par campaigns.

The reigning La Liga champions have finally found a solution to their right-back woes this season following the arrival of Joao Cancelo. Barcelona will look to complete a permanent deal for the Portuguese international next year, although the negotiations might get complicated.

But irrespective of how the talks between Barcelona and Manchester City progress, Dest has a non-existent future at the Catalan club. So, it will be interesting to see if the defending La Liga champions finally succeed in cashing in on him in the 2024 summer transfer window.
