Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly keen on signing 18-year-old disgruntled German striker Youssoufa Moukoko from Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Youssoufa Moukoko is an unhappy figure at Borussia Dortmund. The 18-year-old wants a way out of the Bundesliga club in the January transfer window. That escape route might come from Chelsea and Liverpool, with the duo keen on his services.

Youssoufa Moukoko was one of the brightest young prospects in Europe during his youth career. Such was his impact in age-group football that he compelled the Bundesliga to change the minimum age limit for a player to make his league debut, reducing it to 16. And the German international became the youngest debutant in Bundesliga history in November 2020, a day after his 16th birthday.

However, Moukoko’s progress has stalled in the three years since then, as he has not been a regular starter for Borussia Dortmund. That has been the case this term, with the 18-year-old managing only 66 minutes of game time thus far. The youngster’s situation has left him disgruntled, and he wants a January exit from the Bundesliga club.

The situation has not gone unnoticed, with several high-profile clubs ready to prise him away from Borussia Dortmund. The report mentions Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers as prospective suitors. But Chelsea and Liverpool’s interest will raise eyebrows, considering the state of their squads.

Chelsea can do with a striker, but they need someone who can hit the ground running. The Blues have shown interest in Victor Osimhen, but the Nigerian international will unlikely arrive in January. So, Moukoko might be a viable target for Chelsea if they are keen on signing a striker this coming winter.

As for Liverpool, the Reds have also shown interest in Osimhen. But Jurgen Klopp already has two strikers in his squad and does not need another option. So, Liverpool’s interest in neither Osimhen nor Moukoko makes sense.

The disgruntled 18-year-old striker should also decide against picking Liverpool as his next destination, considering game time is his preference. So, a move to Chelsea should serve him well, although it will be interesting to see if the Blues present an offer.
