Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Tottenham are keen on Santiago Gimenez, with the race for the striker expected to heat up in the coming months.
According to Fichajes, Tottenham will have to compete with Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid for the signature of Feyenoord’s 23-goal star Santiago Gimenez. The Mexican striker has been in sensational form since the season began and has naturally attracted the attention of some top clubs in the process.
The report starts with the interest of Atletico Madrid in Santiago Gimenez, who has been pulling up trees in the Eredivisie since last season. His 23 goals in all competitions for Feyenoord in the previous campaign helped them win the league title, and he has continued his scoring run since the current term began.
Gimenez has already broken Feyenoord’s scoring record after eight games in a season, with 12 goals to his name. The more he continues to thrive, the list of interested clubs continues to increase with each passing week. Real Madrid are already considering a move for the Mexican, who Transfermarkt currently values at €40 million.
Feyenoord reportedly wants more than €50 million if Real Madrid or someone else wants him. The Spanish giants are looking for a new centre-forward as a long-term option despite signing Joselu, who appears like a stop-gap idea.
Florentino Perez did not manage to replace Karim Benzema in the side and may see Gimenez as a solid option. The Mexican dreams of joining Real Madrid if an opportunity presents itself and could prioritise a move to the Spanish giants.
Meanwhile, Gimenez may also have the attention of Tottenham alongside Real Madrid. On paper, Spurs may not be able to beat the Spanish giants if both are competing for the same player. However, if the latter are not overly interested, the Premier League giants certainly stand a chance.
Gimenez’s agent recently confirmed Tottenham’s interest in the striker as Ange Postecoglou looks for a Harry Kane replacement. In hindsight, both Spurs and Real Madrid are in a similar position, looking to replace a goal-laden forward in their teams.
Spurs are considerably smaller in stature than Real Madrid, but they are in a fantastic position to attract some top talents. If the Mexican does arrive here, he will become a part of an exciting side under Postecoglou and probably thrive in these conditions of the Premier League.
As things stand, a move away from Feyenoord looks imminent, either in January or next summer. A move to Real Madrid would certainly fulfil the player’s dream, but Tottenham aren’t too bad either for an alternative option for Gimenez.
