West Ham United might look to sign 30-year-old Manchester United defender Harry Maguire in the January transfer window.

According to a report by ESPN, Harry Maguire is the subject of interest from West Ham United. Kurt Zouma might leave the East London club in the January transfer window. The Hammers are thus scouring the market for a centre-back, with the Manchester United defender emerging as a target.

Harry Maguire has plummeted in the pecking order at Manchester United since the arrival of Erik ten Hag. The Dutch tactician began his tenure with the English international as the first-choice centre-back. But he became a bit-part player after disastrous performances at the start of the 2022/23 season.

Things went from bad to worse during the summer break, with ten Hag taking the captaincy from him and handing the armband to Bruno Fernandes. The subsequent transfer window brought links with several Premier League clubs, with West Ham United coming close to securing Maguire’s services. But with the 30-year-old failing to agree to a payout with Manchester United, a deal did not materialise.

Manchester United also decided against selling Maguire after failing to sign a centre-back in the final days of the summer transfer window. However, the player’s situation has not changed much, and he has managed just over 200 minutes of game time thus far this season. So, a January exit might be on the cards for the experienced defender.

Recent reports have linked the former Manchester United captain with Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. But West Ham United will likely rejoin the race to secure Maguire’s services in the January transfer window. The report claims that they are considering a move during the winter.

Kurt Zouma faces an uncertain future at the London Stadium, with reports linking him with a January departure. A move to the Saudi Pro League might be on the cards, with interest from clubs emerging. Harry Maguire has thus emerged as a viable target again for West Ham United.

Manchester United might not stand in Maguire’s way either, considering he has fallen in the pecking order. However, failure to sign a replacement might create a situation similar to the summer transfer window.
