West Ham United have agreed on a £30 million deal with Manchester United for wantaway defender Harry Maguire.

According to Laurie Whitwell of The Athletic, Harry Maguire is set to leave Manchester United and join West Ham United. The two clubs have agreed on a £30 million deal for the 57-cap England international, who has no place in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

From signing for Manchester United for a world record fee for a defender to becoming the fifth-choice centre-back, Harry Maguire’s fall from grace has been phenomenal. A massive section of fans have stopped rating him, while another keeps stressing that the 30-year-old remains a formidable defender.

Yet, Erik ten Hag made it clear after two games last season that Maguire was no longer a starter in his side. Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane have started most games together, and the pair will continue to do so this time around.

Moreover, Ten Hag chose Victor Lindelof or Luke Shaw to fill the void in games when the aforementioned duo were not available. Hence, the notion of Maguire becoming their fifth-choice centre-back proved correct, and now he is about the leave the club.

During the summer, he got stripped of the captain’s armband, and despite suggestions, Maguire was ready to fight for his place; the defender will leave the club. It may have something to do with Gareth Southgate’s latest comments about playing regular club football, irrespective of which team his players were featuring for.

West Ham United have agreed on a deal with Manchester United in the region of £30 million. The move comes after the Hammers saw an earlier £20 million bid rejected by the Red Devils. David Moyes remained persistent and convinced the 30-year-old to join his team.

West Ham had lodged the improved offer a few days ago. And while there were suggestions that Manchester United wanted more, they have agreed to the £30 million fee. Moyes has some funds to spend following the sale of Declan Rice and Gianluca Scamacca.

Maguire was also keen on joining the Hammers once their recent bid arrived. Other clubs were in the hunt for the 57-cap England international. But the London Stadium seems like an apt destination for the 30-year-old.

Meanwhile, Manchester United had already begun searching for a replacement, with OGC Nice’s Jean-Clair Todibo a target for Ten Hag. If Maguire leaves, the manager would surely need another player to improve the backline, and the Frenchman is part of a shortlist, among others.

As for West Ham, they have had a slow window so far and could accelerate more moves before the transfer deadline. Edson Alvarez has agreed to move, while there is also an imminent agreement with Southampton for midfielder James Ward-Prowse.
