Liverpool are set to make a move for Brazilian midfielder Andre in January, with Fluminense open to a sale of their star then.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool are intent on making a move for 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andre. His club, Fluminense, rejected overtures from the Merseysiders during the summer as they wanted to keep hold of him until mid-season.
Brazilian club often avoids doing business with their European counterparts during the summer months. More so for a team who are competing in the Copa Libertadores, it becomes a challenging time to retain some of their top names, as Fluminense did just that.
Fluminense rejected Liverpool’s overtures for 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder Andre, with the Reds seeing their offer rejected. Jurgen Klopp really liked him and wanted to bring him to Anfield, but the circumstances dictated otherwise.
Andre has been a mainstay at Fluminense and has made 156 appearances for the senior side. He has steered his boyhood club to this year’s Copa Libertadores final and will want to finish things off with his club on a high note when they take on Boca Juniors.
Around the upcoming January window, Fluminense will be open to discussing a move with Liverpool and will not stand in the midfielder’s way as they did during the summer. Klopp intends to bring Andre to his side as he had wanted earlier, and there’s a belief the German still has space in his midfield to do so.
Andre also hopes to complete a move to Liverpool in January and realise his dream of playing for the Merseysiders. He reportedly has a release clause of around €40 million, but Fluminense had hinted at accepting a lower bid of around €30 million.
If Liverpool is to go all out on signing another midfielder in January, they may cool their interest in Piero Hincapie or any other defensive target Klopp had in mind. Many believe signing a new centre-back feels essential for the Reds, but for now, the manager may focus on completing his midfield rebuild.
Andre, for his style, will absolutely suit what Liverpool does on the pitch. His high intensity and energetic manner will help with Klopp’s ideas and make them a better team. However, the Merseysdiders are not short of midfielders since they signed Wataru Endo instead of Andre during the summer.
Furthermore, they also added Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai to their squad, while Ryan Gravenberch arrived on deadline day. Hence, Klopp must make an absolute choice about Andre and while he feels the need to sign the 22-year-old Brazilian midfielder, a central defender should become their priority for January.
