Arsenal have stepped up their efforts as they look to land the 27-year-old Chelsea target Ivan Toney in their ranks.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Arsenal are keen on having Ivan Toney in their ranks. The Gunners are looking to bolster their attack in the winter transfer window, and the 27-year-old Brentford striker is their primary transfer target. The suspended striker, also on Chelsea’s radar, has a price tag of £80 million.

Arsenal have been linked with the England international over the past few months. But, of late, they have stepped up their efforts. Their manager Mikel Arteta is a big fan of the Brentford striker and feels his arrival could make them a much more threatening team going forward.

Arteta is not the only one in favour of signing a world-class striker in the winter. People at the club feel they could close down the gap at the top of the league by signing a new forward. They have a quality squad which can surely challenge for all major titles. But signing a new number nine who can guarantee goals will take them a long way.

Arteta has used Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz up top so far this season. All three of them together have managed just four goals. As a result, the Spanish manager is desperate to have Toney in his ranks.

The England international is currently banned because of breaching betting rules. But, prior to his ban, he was scoring goals for fun in the English top flight, and his arrival could be a huge boost for their pursuit of the league title.

Toney’s ban will end in January. As a result, clubs are gearing up to land him at the club. Chelsea are one of the club that will surely challenge Arsenal for his signatures. The Blues do not have a proven number nine in their ranks. And, they have given Mauricio Pochettino the green light to push for a new striker in the winter.

While the Blues will try their best, they might not get their hands on the 27-year-old because he wants to play for Arsenal. Toney is a big admirer of Arteta’s team and has been closely watching them. He wants to pay for them in the near future.

Arsenal and Brentford recently had a meeting where they discussed the future of the England international. The Bees want to make around £80 million by offloading their star man. But, the report suggests a deal is possible below that figure.
