Chelsea midfielder Conor Galagher is ready to pen a new deal amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Football Insider, Premier Conor Gallagher is prepared to pen a new deal at Chelsea amid interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 23-year-old came through the youth ranks at Cobham before earning his first big break in Blue under Frank Lampard. Gallagher has since enjoyed fruitful loan spells elsewhere and is slowly working his way back into Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

The Englishman was expected to leave Chelsea last summer and was attracting serious interest from Tottenham. However, he stayed put and is now growing in stature at Stamford Bridge. Gallagher has enjoyed a fine run of games and has also been named in Gareth Southgate’s England squad to face Australia and Ukraine in the upcoming international break.

The 23-year-old also captained Chelsea in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell, displaying the faith Pochettino has in his ability to read. Now, having rediscovered his mojo, it appears like Chelsea are ready to tie him down to a new contract.

Gallagher’s current deal in West London expires in 2025. While he has been afforded significant game time this season, much of it was thanks to injuries elsewhere in the squad. Romeo Lavia, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Carney Chukwuemeka and Lesley Ugochukwu will all compete with Gallagher for a spot on the first XI soon enough.

Pochettino has now changed his tone about the English midfielder and appears keen to retain him. With the European Championships set to take place next summer, it is in the 23-year-old’s best interest to play regularly and impress.

This is bad news for Tottenham who could be in the market for a new midfielder come the January transfer window. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s future in North London is far from secure and should he leave, Tottenham will need to bring in an able replacement.

Working under Ange Postecoglou could help Gallagher thrive, but he is by no means a sure starter at the N-17. Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr, Oliver Skipp and James Maddison are all impressing under the new management and are unlikely to give up their spots without a fight.
