Chelsea and Manchester United will reportedly compete with Barcelona in the race to sign Xavi Simons in the 2024 summer transfer window.

A report from Fichajes has claimed that Chelsea and Manchester United are keen on 20-year-old Dutch attacker Xavi Simons. The youngster, currently on loan at Bundesliga club RB Leipzig from Paris Saint-Germain, is also a target for Barcelona.

Xavi Simons has been quite impressive in the Bundesliga this season. He had an outstanding 2022/23 campaign in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven, scoring 22 goals and picking up 12 assists across all competitions.

The 20-year-old is destined to develop into a world-class attacker and it is no surprise that Manchester United and Chelsea are keen on him. The Dutchman is capable of playing across the front three, and his versatility will be an added bonus.

Chelsea have improved their attack over the last couple of windows. But they are still missing a reliable goal scorer. Simons will not only add goals to the attack but will help them create more goal-scoring opportunities as well. Working under a top-class coach like Mauricio Pochettino could help the 20-year-old improve further and fulfil his world-class potential as well.

Meanwhile, Manchester United need to add more quality to their attack. Jadon Sancho and Antony have failed to live up to the expectations, and they will need to be replaced soon. Simons would be an upgrade on both players, and it remains to be seen whether Manchester United can agree on a deal with PSG.

The Ligue 1 champions might not be keen on selling the player just yet. They re-signed him earlier this summer and decided to loan him out to RB Leipzig so that he could get regular game time. PSG already have Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe, and they would not have been able to give him regular first-team action this season. Meanwhile, Barcelona are also vying for Simons.

It will be interesting to see if PSG plan to integrate Simons into the starting lineup next season, especially with Mbappe expected to leave the club in the summer. PSG are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and they do not need to sell players for money. Chelsea and Manchester United will find it hard to lure the 20-year-old away from PSG next year, with Barcelona’s prospects not bright either.
