Serie A giants Juventus will reportedly look to sign Swedish defender Victor Lindelof from Manchester United next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Victor Lindelof is the subject of interest from Juventus. The Serie A giants are in the market for a centre-back heading into the 2024 summer transfer window. And the Manchester United defender has emerged as a target for them.

Victor Lindelof has blown hot and cold since joining Manchester United from Benfica in a deal worth €35 million in July 2017. The Swedish international was one of the most coveted young defenders in the world during his time at Benfica. But he has not taken his performances to the next level at Old Trafford.

Lindelof’s inconsistent performances have cost him game time at Manchester United, which has reduced with every season. And he is currently behind Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez in the pecking order. Nonetheless, the 29-year-old has turned out nearly 250 times thus far for Manchester United, chipping in with three goals and six assists.

But while he has featured regularly for Manchester United this season, his status will unlikely improve this season, despite Martinez’s struggles. In addition, the Swede is in the final year of his contract at Manchester United. So a free transfer might be on the cards, with the situation alerting Juventus.

The Serie A giants are in a spot of bother on the financial front. So, they will likely depend on free transfers to bolster their squad in the 2024 summer transfer window. Danilo is on the wrong side of 30, while recent reports have linked Gleison Bremer with a move away from Juventus.

So, it behoves the Bianconeri to invest in a centre-back in the 2024 summer transfer window. Lindelof has thus emerged as a viable target for Juventus. That the Manchester United defender might be available for a free transfer makes him an appealing candidate to bolster their defence.

But it will not be surprising if Manchester United look to tie Lindelof to a new contract to not lose money on their investment of €35 million. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if Juventus can prise him away from Old Trafford next summer.
