Ange Postecoglou does not count on Eric Dier for the current season despite making the bench a few times, as a January exit looms large.

According to Football Insider, Eric Dier could leave Tottenham as soon as January with the 29-year-old no longer a part of Ange Postecoglou’s plans. The Australian manager does not count on the experienced defender, who failed to move out during the summer window.

It’s been more than nine years that Eric Dier joined from Sporting CP and established himself as one of the regulars at Tottenham. He had a big part to play under former managers, especially Mauricio Pochettino, as those teams went close to winning the Premier League and Champions League titles.

Despite making 42 appearances last season for Spurs, new manager Ange Postecoglou did not recognise the 29-year-old as part of his plans for the current campaign. The Australian does not count on the defender to make an impact in his squad, and, so far, has kept him away from first-team action.

Dier did return to the bench for games against Sheffield United and Arsenal, but from now on, the 29-year-old may not feature regularly. Micky van de Ven’s arrival during the summer may have closed the door on the experienced star, with the current campaign probably his last in a Tottenham shirt.

Dier held showdown talks with Daniel Levy to determine where he stands at the club. As per the latest, Spurs are open to letting him leave even for a cut-price offer in January. The 29-year-old may have had chances to do so during the summer window, but no transfer materialised in the end.

The centre-back can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January with the view of joining them on a free next summer. Alternatively, Tottenham could release him in the next window to create space for a new defender to join in that window.

Roma are one of the clubs showing an interest in signing him. Former Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is the key factor behind the chase. He was also offered to Bayern Munich, as per reports, but the Germans had other options on their shortlist and may have looked away from the Spurs man.

With Dier no longer a part of Postecoglou’s plans, it’s easy to think he will leave as soon as January. He has been an immense part of their recent history. Still, under the Australian, the club have taken a different direction, and the same even applies to experienced midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who could also leave in the next window.
