Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier has been linked with a move away from the club in recent months.

However, the 29-year-old failed to secure a move away from Tottenham before the Premier League transfer window closed. The defender could still move to clubs in Saudi Arabia or Turkey where the transfer window will close later this month. A report from Talksport claims that Dier is now ready to consider a move for the future and he would be open to signing a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January.

The 29-year-old has been a key player for Tottenham in recent seasons but his form has clearly regressed over the past year. Dier was heavily criticised for his error-prone performances at the back last season and it will be interesting to see if he can hold down a regular starting spot this season.

The versatile 29-year-old was linked with a number of Premier League clubs but a transfer did not materialise eventually. There is no doubt that a player of his quality will have plenty of suitors and it will be interesting to see where he ends up eventually.

The defender is in the final year of his contract with Tottenham and he will be eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club in January. It is evident that he is hoping to leave Tottenham on a free transfer next summer.

Dier is versatile enough to operate as a full-back, a central defender as well as a defensive midfielder. He could be an asset for most teams, especially if he manages to regain his form and confidence.

Meanwhile, Tottenham will probably hope to sell the player permanently before the end of the season so that they can recoup some money for him. They will not want to lose a player of his experience and ability on a free transfer. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops over the next few months.
