Liverpool would have to pay €60 million for Donyell Malen

Borussia Dortmund will demand at least €60 million from suitors like Liverpool for their Dutch winger Donyell Malen.

According to Sport Bild, Liverpool are keen on Donyell Malen, as Jurgen Klopp views the Dutchman as a replacement for Mohamed Salah. Borussia Dortmund could demand at least €60 million to sell the forward, as they will look to profit from their investment.

In the summer of 2021, when Borussia Dortmund sold Jadon Sancho to Manchester United, they went about signing Donyell Malen as his potential replacement. The Dutch winger then cost €30 million and was considered a flop during his first campaign in the Bundesliga.

Malen did improve the following season with a tally of nine goals, and so far in the current campaign, he already has four strikes. Hence, Dortmund see visible progress in the player’s performance, and so they have put a rather high valuation on his head.

Malen has recently attracted the interest of Jurgen Klopp as the German boss continues to evaluate potential replacements for Mohamed Salah. Liverpool will surely hope to play with the Egyptian for the whole of this season, but there’s a realistic chance of him leaving the club in 2024.

In any case, the Reds want to stay prepared for any eventuality and have identified Malen as part of a shortlist of potential replacement options. Federico Chiesa also features on their radar, as Liverpool have held an interest in the Italian winger for a considerable time.

Similarly, if they feel the need to sign someone from within the Premier League, then Jarrod Bowen is a strong target for Liverpool. Now, there are these links to Malen, which makes their search for Salah’s heir all the more interesting.

Dortmund, as a club, have always been open to selling their best talents. Like every other player they have let go, the report suggests Malen also has a price. As things stand, they want to double their investment in the €60 million-rated Bundesliga forward.

The 24-year-old is now hitting top form and realising his potential at Dortmund; they will ensure any buyer will have to come close to that sum. The €60 million-rated Bundesliga forward will surely consider a switch to Merseyside if an opportunity presents itself.

However, as things stand, Liverpool will keep monitoring his season and probably make a decision based on what happens with Salah. Ideally, they would like to sell the Egyptian only next summer, but the Saudis could spring up a surprise in January itself.
