Barcelona and Real Madrid will have to fork out around €100 million to sign 20-year-old German whizkid Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Barcelona and Real Madrid know how much it will cost to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in the 2024 summer transfer window. The Bundesliga club will demand around €100 million to part ways with the 20-year-old whizkid.

Florian Wirtz is a native of Pulheim and began his youth career at SV Grun-Weiss Brauweiler before joining 1.FC Koln. But the German international rose to prominence after arriving at Bayer Leverkusen in January 2020. He made his mark in the youth division before breaking into the first-team squad, becoming the fourth-youngest debutant in the Bundesliga.

But the 20-year-old whizkid has struggled with fitness issues, with a long-term knee injury hampering him last year. But Wirtz has bounced back well from the setback, kick-starting the new season strongly. And he has managed three goals and three assists in seven appearances thus far.

Wirtz’s progress has Bayer Leverkusen has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe. Barcelona can do with a versatile midfielder like Wirtz, who can reprise roles in the middle of the park and the final third. And with Joao Felix not certain to complete a permanent move to Barcelona next year, the 20-year-old German whizkid is a viable target. But he has a price tag of €100 million, which might bother the Blaugrana.

So, Real Madrid might be in the pole position to prise the youngster away from Bayer Leverkusen in 2024. With Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching the end of their glittering careers, the Merengues need a successor. Wirtz is thus a viable target for Real Madrid, who might be able to afford to pay €100 million for him.

In addition, the youngster is also a target for Bayern Munich. So, the race to secure Wirtz’s services is heating up. And it will be interesting to see if any suitor will be willing to fork out €100 million to land him next year.
