Manchester United could test Juventus’s resolve on Federico Chiesa with an offer in January as Erik ten Hag eyes a new winger.

According to Fichajes, Federico Chiesa features on Manchester United’s newest list of potential winger signings as they could ponder a January move. Juventus consider the 25-year-old Italian international a key member of their team after a stunning start to the new season but might turn their heads at a large offer.

One position that Manchester United need not bother to look at during the summer were the wide attacking areas. Erik ten Hag had a varied list of options in those slots and barely bothered to strengthen during the summer window. However, the situation has changed dramatically in the ensuing weeks since the market closed, which may push the club to target new players.

For starters, the well-publicised assault allegations on Brazilian winger Antony continue to cast doubts over his long-term future. Then, the whole ten Hag-Jadon Sancho bust-up, which has since seen the English attacker banished to the lower teams.

The harshness of ten Hag’s punishment has reportedly banned Sancho from using facilities at the training ground meant for first-team players. The whole issue revolves around the winger apologising to the manager for a social media post after the Arsenal loss.

While there is no timeline for those two issues to resolve, Manchester United might face an acute shortage of wingers. Even Marcus Rashford’s form has dropped a little, which could force ten Hag to dip into the market for a reliable option.

There were reports of an interest in Serge Gnabry, but that has since been ruled out. The story also mentions Federico Chiesa and Nico Williams, with both those stars hitting top form since the season started.

Williams seeks to join Real Madrid, which could see him snub advances from the Premier League. However, Chiesa could become an achievable target, although there are other clubs, notably Liverpool, chasing the 25-year-old Italian international.

Juventus were open to selling the winger during the summer. But after a stellar start to the current campaign, his price has nearly doubled. The Bianconeri might consider offers in excess of €70 million for the 25-year-old Italian international but remain uninterested in dealing in January.

Hence, Manchester United must make a solid offer deemed enough to make Juventus consider the approach and begin negotiations. Any move will prove tricky for Manchester United, as Premier League clubs have traditionally struggled to lure in Italian players, and the same may apply to the 25-year-old winger.
