Lecce’s 18-year-old highly-rated left-back Patrick Dorgu is on the radars of Premier League giants Chelsea and Liverpool.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea and Liverpool are vying for Lecce’s 18-year-old, highly-rated left-back Patrick Dorgu. The teenager has made a big name with his performances for the Serie A club, with the Premier League duo now keen on exploring a move.
Patrick Dorgu has taken his first-team chances with both hands after Lecce promoted the 18-year-old into their first-team plans this season. So far, he has started thrice for the team in Serie A and also made three further substitute appearances.
Overall, he looks destined to nail down the first-choice left-back role this season and already has the attention of some top teams. The report details that Dorgu feels a move to the Premier League would suit his career over other countries and has the interest of Chelsea and Liverpool.
Both Premier League giants are on the lookout for exciting young talents to add to their squad. Chelsea, in particular, have spent mammoth sums on recruiting players in the past three windows, with most of them below a certain age.
At left-back, Chelsea have an abundance of options. But with Marc Cucurella likely to leave in January, they might have space to add another player. So far this season, Mauricio Pochettino has used Ben Chilwell and Levi Colwill in that position but also has Ian Maatsen to call upon.
Maatsen is close to signing a new deal, which would make their chase for Dorgu interesting. Todd Boehly has not shown signs of slowing down in his pursuit of young, up-and-coming players, which could open the doors to sign the 18-year-old highly-rated left-back.
Moreover, the report insists Dorgu is leaning towards joining Chelsea in an opportunity presented itself, but Liverpool could provide tough competition. Jurgen Klopp does not have a clear need for a new left-back, considering Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas are his two options.
Tsimikas is also close to signing a new contract, which would keep the position locked for the coming years. However, Klopp has always brought young players for development, which could open the door for someone like Dorgu to come in and compete with the others.
Lecce and the player would want a consistent season, and hence, a January move could become a problem. However, with neither Chelsea nor Liverpool in urgent need of a new left-back, they might wait until the summer before opening talks for the 18-year-old highly-rated left-back.
