Barcelona and Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing 18-year-old Danish prodigy Patrick Dorgu, his agent has confirmed.

Kingsley Ogbodo has told Danish outlet Bold that his client, Patrick Dorgu, has attracted several top clubs. And Liverpool, Manchester City, and Barcelona are keen on signing the 18-year-old defensive sensation. Meanwhile, the teenager will permanently join Serie A club Lecce in the summer transfer window.

Ogbodo said, “Liverpool want him. Liverpool have been watching him and interested in him for some time, but if he goes there he will have to play in the U23 team. It’s not the best for him, so I advise him not to do it. They can offer him a lot of money, but that’s not what we’re looking for right now. We focus on his career, development and playing time.”

“Liverpool is of course not the only club that wants him. There are many clubs here in England who are keeping an eye on him. Manchester City kept an eye on him when he played against England for the U19 national team in Hobro in Denmark. Lecce’s scout has also told me that Barcelona is also keeping an eye on Patrick, because he is a huge talent.”

Patrick Dorgu spent most of his formative years in his homeland, rising through the ranks at FC Nordsjaelland. But he will move to Italy in the summer transfer window after spending the 2022/23 season on loan at Serie A club Lecce. And the Salentians are signing the 18-year-old defensive sensation permanently next week. But Liverpool and Barcelona want to prise him away from the Serie A outfit.

Barcelona and Liverpool have a rich history of poaching prodigious prospects across Europe and beyond. And both clubs are also renowned for handing opportunities to youngsters when the time is right. While Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones are the shining examples for Liverpool, Pedri, Gavi, and Alejandro Balde have taken the bull by the horn at FC Barcelona.

Most recently, the Catalan giants have been more active in the market, signing Mikayil Faye. And reports this week have linked Barcelona with Ibrahim Afolabi Oseni. Meanwhile, Liverpool can do with a young left-back, considering Andrew Robertson will turn 30 before the 2023/24 season ends. And Dorgu can be the long-term left-back solution for the Merseyside club.

Apart from Liverpool and Barcelona, the 18-year-old defensive sensation is also a target for Manchester City. But continuing his career with Lecce will be a sensible decision as he can secure a quicker pathway to regular first-team football at the Serie A club. However, it will be interesting to see if any of the big-name suitors prise him away.
