Chelsea’s enquiry for 25-year-old midfielder Bruno Guimaraes was turned down by Newcastle United before he agreed on a new deal.

According to a report by Football Transfers, Chelsea wanted to sign Bruno Guimaraes in the winter transfer window. The Blues approached Newcastle United over a potential transfer of the 25-year-old before he reached an agreement in principle over a new deal. But, the Magpies turned down the approach by the London club.

Guimaraes was one of the initial marquee signings for Newcastle United post their takeover. He arrived at the cub in the winter of 2022 and has gone from strength to strength since. He has featured in a total of 63 matches for the Magpies, contributing towards 16 goals. The Brazil international was absolutely sensational last season.

Guimaraes featured in 40 matches last season and was on the pitch for over 3,200 minutes. He scored five goals and even bagged as many assists. He played an integral part in helping them qualify for the Champions League by finishing in the top four of the Premier League.

His exceptional performances attracted a lot of attention, and there were a few big clubs that wanted to sign him in the summer. But, the Magpies had no intentions of selling him. Chelsea were one of the clubs interested in the Brazilian, and they even approached the Magpies.

While the Blues did not really make many moves during the summer, they recently approached Newcastle once again for the 25-year-old. The approach came on the back of the injury that Romeo Lavia suffered.

The West London club wanted to sign him in the winter to ensure they had enough depth in the midfield. But, their approach was turned down and post that, Newcastle United have sealed an agreement in principle with the player over a new deal.

The Magpies have rewarded him for his performances with improved terms in a deal that will run until the summer of 2028. Meanwhile, there is a release clause worth £100 million in his new contract. Despite the new deal, clubs still remain interested in the Brazil international and they could return next summer for his services.
