Real Madrid will have to battle it out with Bayern Munich for the services of 23-year-old Chelsea full-back Reece James.

According to a report by Defensa Central, Real Madrid are keen on having Reece James in their ranks. The Spanish giants are desperate to sign a new right-back next summer, and he is their priority target. But, they are not the only club interested in the 23-year-old, with Bayern Munich willing to go out for his services.

James has been a part of Chelsea since his childhood days. He has come up the ranks at the West London club and has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2019. The England international has gone from strength to strength since getting promoted to their first team, and he played an integral part in helping his childhood club win the Champions League a few years back. He is currently their club captain.

The 23-year-old has featured in a total of 148 matches for the Blues and has contributed towards 31 goals. He has bagged 20 assists and has found the back of the net on 11 occasions. He might struggled in the recent past because of injuries but he is surely right up there with the best full-backs in the world.

James’s contract at Chelsea runs until the summer of 2028. While there are still five years left on his deal at the London club, the England international could still end up leaving the club next season given the amount of interest in his services.

Real Madrid are one of the clubs keen on signing him. Los Blancos have their eyes set on the 23-year-old as they look to reinforce their defence. They have already added young stars to their midfield and attack and are now looking to sign a young full-back.

Both Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez are in the twilight of their career, and Real Madrid want to sign James in order to reinforce the right-back position as well as have enough competition in that part of the field.

But, they are not the only ones interested in the England international. Even Bayern Munich are looking to add James to their ranks. They recently parted ways with Benjamin Pavard, who ended up joining Inter Milan.

Pavard was one of their options for the right-back slot, and his departure has left a void that Thomas Tuchel wants to fill by signing the 23-year-old Chelsea skipper. While Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are keen on having James in their ranks, it won’t be easy to land him at the club as the Blues are expected to give it their all to keep him at Stamford Bridge.
