Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are reportedly vying for the signature of 20-year-old French prospect Rayan Cherki, with PSG leading the race.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are keen on signing Rayan Cherki. The 20-year-old Lyon prospect remains highly rated around Europe despite Les Gones’ struggles. And the Ligue 1 champions lead the race to sign the young attacking midfielder.

Rayan Cherki is one of the best young prospects in his homeland. A native of Lyon, the Frenchman began his youth career at Saint-Priest but spent most of his formative years with Olympique Lyonnais. He subsequently rose through the ranks at the Ligue 1 club before making his first-team debut as a 16-year-old in October 2019.

Since then, the 20-year-old has come leaps and bounds, establishing himself as a regular for Lyon. Cherki has turned out four times for Les Gones thus far this season but has not been impressive enough. But his stock remains high despite his and Lyon’s struggles in Ligue 1 in the ongoing campaign.

The French prospect has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs in the last few years. Reports in the summer transfer window linked Cherki with Chelsea and Real Madrid. And Los Blancos remain interested in securing his services. But they are behind Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign him.

The Ligue 1 champions constantly scour the market to bolster their squad. And Cherki has emerged as a viable target for PSG, who can beef up the midfield unit by signing the Lyon prospect. The report claims they are the front-runners to sign the youngster from their fellow top-flight outfit.

But Real Madrid will unlikely go down without a fight in the race to secure Cherki’s services. The Merengues hold a long-standing interest in the 20-year-old. And he can be a long-term replacement for Luka Modric, who has entered the final phase of his glittering career.
